About the Name

We often get asked about the product and company name "RhodeCode". The "Code"-part is clear, right? , but what about the "Rhode"? Do we have our office in Rhode Island? Or are we somehow affiliated to the Greek sea nymph Rhode?

For both options: No - but we actually favor Greek god names for internal projects. So what about the "Rhode"?

The name RhodeCode comes from the combination of the words "Code" and the precious metal Rhodium, which is one of the hardest and most valuable metals on earth.

We chose that name because with RhodeCode’s code review and code management features it is possible to create very stable, rock-solid, and hardened source code.

And since RhodeCode is used in production environments in many thousand companies all around the world, we can be (relatively) sure that RhodeCode itself is hardened, stable and rock-solid. Especially thanks to all the contributions from these companies back to RhodeCode during the last 3 years.

We also take security very, very seriously, in fact it’s the most important point for us. We know that your source code is the most valuable asset for you, so we treat it like that. We treat it like pure Rhodium :)

Feedback? Or free office space on Rhode Island for a nymph? Please post it here.
