RhodeCode Enterprise 2.2.5

Today’s RhodeCode Enterprise 2.2.5 release is about the implementation of feature requests by larger enterprises and governmental organizations with thousands of users, many hierarchy levels and hundreds of thousands of repositories.

The management of many users and permissions has never been so convenient and easy. But also smaller organizations do benefit.

These are the major points of RhodeCode Enterprise 2.2.5:

1. Easier Management in Large Organizations

Many large companies and organizations mirror their internal hierarchical structures inside RhodeCode Enterprise by creating multi-tiered repository group layers.

For example, the research & development leadership of a large governmental agency created repository groups for each of their 9 R&D facilities. At each facility the local management created under their own repository group new repository groups for each department. And each department manager created new repository groups under his department repository group, one for each project his department is working on. And each project manager grouped his project again in several repository groups, grouped by team or project state.

In the end, the whole organization had 9 levels of repository groups with 20,000+ users neatly grouped and hierarchically seperated for security and management reasons.

For these kind of multi-level repository grouping we improved the internal handling of repository group permissions which led to a strong performance gain and a more useful birds eye view for the leadership.

Additionally, we added filters to all permission boxes to show/hide repositories, repository groups, users and user groups by permission. That feature alone makes the management of larger teams much more convenient.

Here is an example screenshot of the filters in action:

2. Extended API

Permission delegation is often seen as the killer feature of RhodeCode Enterprise since it enables the management of multi-tier organizations. In today’s 2.2.5 release we are adding permission delegation to our API which will make every inhouse automation even more powerful.

3. There is More

For example, it is now required to enter the password again before changing the password. Please have a look at our versions page for a list of all improvements and fixes in the latest RhodeCode Enterprise release.

How to Upgrade

Firstly, please upgrade the Installer itself by selecting the option at the Installer menu. Today’s latest stable version of the Installer is 0.7.0. After that, you can upgrade to RhodeCode Enterprise 2.2.5 for Linux and Windows by opening the RhodeCode Installer and selecting "Check for new RhodeCode Enterprise version" or "Upgrade RhodeCode Enterprise".

We are internally working on some great new things and we can’t wait to unveil them soon. In the meantime, thanks again for your ongoing support and please keep on sending us feedback!
